3 Budget-Friendly Halloween Costume Ideas + 1 For Your Pup

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays! Haunted houses, jack-o-lanterns, costumes, candy – I mean what isn’t there to like? Each year I enjoy searching the internet (I’m looking at you, Pinterest!) and digging into my creative side to figure out what I want to be. And now with Halloween right about the corner, I wanted to share three quick, easy and budget-friendly ideas for you that will have all eyes on you this year!

1. Prickly Cactus

Please ignore the terrible lighting and bad photos taken by my iPhone 😉

Cacti and succulents seem to have been all the rage this past year. Pick up a green top (this one is from H&M), pipe cleaners, a headband and tissue paper, and you’re all set! I had most of these things on hand, so I only spent around $20.

*Tip: See if you can find a green knit sweater. Honestly, a looser or chunkier sweater would probably look even better! I chose one I knew I’d want to wear again. You can easily stick the pipe cleaners through and will pull out without causing damage to your top. Then you can wear it again later in the season!

2. Basic Witch

Another trend this past year or two was the “Basic B*tch” term. This specifically refers to females who wear all the same clothes, talk the same way, fit into a stereotype and look, well, basic! Some see it as a bad thing, but I have no shame in sometimes being that “basic” girl. This costume is a fun twist on the phrase that is super easy and very comfortable! All I had to do was go digging through my closet for leggings, a grey undershirt (I used an old one of my husband’s and wrote on it with sharpie), a flannel shirt, choker necklace, and Ray Bans. Then I went out and bought a tea at Starbucks and shopped for a witch hat. Not pictured are all of my hashtags on the back of my shirt: #PumpkinSpiceEverything #PSL #BasicWitch #SoCute #CuteAF, etc. And because I already had most of this on hand, I only spent around $10 on this costume! You can’t beat that!

*Tip: A quick search on Google and you can find a “Basic Witch” t-shirt already made for around $15-$20. I didn’t have time to wait for it to ship to Germany, so I made my own.

3. Ice Cream Cone

My cherry stem got cut off at the top, but you get the idea 😉

This is an adorable one and a personal favorite (maybe because it’s also one of my favorite desserts)! There are different options for this, but this is the one I went with. Once again, go rummaging through your closet to see what you already have on hand. I picked a tan pencil skirt, white sweater and nude pumps. Next you’ll need some construction paper for the sprinkles, a headband, red balloon and pipe cleaners for the cherry on top. I used painters tape to place to sprinkles on without damaging my sweater. Final cost for this one, $5! Some other options include wearing khaki pants and white tee (don’t forget your sprinkles), or even wearing an all white dress and place a tan “cone” on your headband.

I hope these three costume ideas help you when deciding what to be this year. Remember that Halloween doesn’t have to stress you out or break the bank! Have some fun, be creative and treat yourself to a couple pieces of candy… or the whole bag! 😉

Pet Costume Idea

Need an idea for your pet? Check out Hudson from a couple years ago. A pair of scissors, an old pillowcase and many treats later, our pup became “Hudson the Friendly Ghost”!
