As you know, Casey and I move around A LOT due to the military. Because of this, we are not shy to visitors… especially since living in Europe! Lately, we’ve had a visitor almost every month and we are loving it! We always joke and call our home(s) Tuggle B&B. And with the holidays approaching, we have lots of family coming to visit. With that in mind, I felt it necessary to share some of my top essentials for the ultimate guest room that will make your guests feel right at home!
1. Their own space
Now, this may seem like a no-brainer, but it is an important one! Guests want to feel comfortable and relaxed when they come to visit and giving them their own space will do just that. I understand that not everyone has the luxury of having a separate room just for guests, but this still applies. Whether you provide an air mattress or a couch in the middle of the living room, try not to stay up late in the room to give them some downtime and privacy before bed.
2. Fresh linens
Give your guests some nice smelling sheets (I like to add Downy Unstoppables to my wash for the extra clean smell), some fluffy towels and an extra throw blanket to have in case they get chilly. Also, keep the towels in plain site or have them easily accessible. Either leave them on their bed or make sure they know where they are. It’s the worst when you get into the shower only to realize you don’t have a towel.
3. A pitcher of water
I like to leave my guests with a small pitcher of water and some glasses. This way they don’t have to go searching for a glass of water in the kitchen late in the night before bed.
4. A mirror
Coming from someone who has many sisters, I like to have a long mirror or at least a small wall mirror for my guests to use in their room/space. This is especially helpful if you have to share bathrooms with them. This gives them an extra space to get ready in to free up the bathroom. It’s also nice for them so they can check their outfit for the day (am I right girls?).
5. A clothes rack/dresser
I have to admit, I still don’t have one of these for my guests. I do have a dresser, but that quickly got filled with extra crap that I probably don’t need. I plan to grab a cheap one at my next IKEA trip. This is nice though so that they can get their clothes out of the suitcase and hang them up for their visit. Especially if they are staying more than a couple of days.
Some other nice touches
- I like to have my wifi network and password on a sticky note in their room. Guests always ask for it, so why not beat them to it and have it readily available.
- A sound machine is nice for guests, especially if you live on a semi-busy street like we do!
- Magazines and reading material in case they want some downtime before bed or if they wake up early before everyone and need something to do.
- I always provide a candle and matches so that guests can make their room smell nice and can feel extra cozy.
These top things are essentials for me and our visitors really love it! It can often be a little stressful before visitors arrive, but it doesn’t have to be. Try and keep these things in mind for your next set of guests!
I loved having the water in our room when we got there. It was an added touch I’ve added to my routine when setting up for guests. ❤️ Love all your tips! Thanks, Allison!
Thanks Kamiko! Can’t wait to have you visit us again!!
I like everything you said Allison. My guest room is also stocked and includes all you mentioned plus Apple TV connection, and a table and chairs. You’re always welcome to stay in Lorrie’s b&b if you’re passing through wiesbaden! I enjoy your updates!
I’m so glad you liked my post! We will definitely take you up on coming to visit. It has been far too long!
These are great, and I love the look of your guestroom! I definitely need to up our bedding game, and I need to add candles and a mirror. Thanks for posting 🙂
Thanks so much Christa! Glad you enjoyed the post. I recommend checking out TKMaxx in Regensburg for bedding!
