I have always enjoyed sledding. Although I didn’t get the chance to do it often living in Georgia, we did take frequent trips to Ohio where there was plenty of snow to offer us some great sledding! But let me tell you something, you have NOT experienced sledding (tobogganing) until you have done it in the Alps! While we were in Austria on our last ski trip of the season we decided to trade in our skis one day for a toboggan.
Don’t have a sled? Don’t worry! There are plenty of places at the bottom of the mountain to rent a toboggan at a decent price. We rented ours here.
Now we opted to do this during the day time and after completing it, I am so glad we did! I couldn’t imagine doing this in the dark. One reason being the views! At every turn our group kept stopping to just admire the gorgeous snowcapped alps.
The second reason is this run can be a bit dangerous if you aren’t careful. It’s important to try and keep control of your sled so can easily maneuver around others and not crash. (I personally steer with my feet.) Also, if you crash or come to a complete stop, get up immediately and move to the side. When it’s crowded people may be going very fast and could run into the back of you.
This by far was my favorite activity of the weekend! It took our group roughly 1.5 – 2 hours to complete the run. You can do it much quicker, but we made stops along the way. There is a bar about halfway down that I recommend stopping at. If you order a round of shots they have an electric train-like machine that will bring them to your table!
If you’re like me and want other activities to do during your ski trip, definitely check this place out! We felt like kids again and laughed the whole way down. It’s great for the whole family!
