The Ultimate Spa Getaway in Karlovy Vary

During the holidays, sometimes we can get stressed and overwhelmed. Not to mention, things can get expensive! So for the MLK holiday weekend, Casey and I decided to start off the new year refreshed and renewed. We also wanted something budget friendly, dog friendly, and close by. So where did we go? Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. Just one night in this adorable town and I can honestly say that 2018 has come off to a GREAT start.

What We Did

Strolled the Streets

One thing I just couldn’t get over about this spa town is the architecture! The colorful, ornate buildings were all around us and made for some spectacular views while strolling the streets.

The Mill Colonnade

Sipped on Thermal Mineral Springs

While exploring the town, you might notice people sipping on something out of little cups/mugs. This is the water from the hot springs located all around the city. They’re said to have healing properties and all rang in temperature and carbon dioxide levels.

You can purchase a mug at one of the many stands located near each spring. You can’t miss them. They range in price and make for a cute souvenir to take home with you. I definitely recommend getting a mug or bringing your own so that you don’t burn your hands.

stopped for a treat at the Grand Pupp hotel

You may recognize this hotel from the movies, The Last Holiday and Casino Royale. Both were filmed here! This grand hotel has a small cafe attached with many drink and dessert options that are delicious. (Make a trip to the bathroom to get a glimpse of the interior – it’s beautiful!)

Got massages at the hotel spa

When you’re in Karlovy Vary you can’t NOT get a spa treatment of some kind, right? There are many different spas and treatments to choose from, so they have a little something for everyone.

We had a spa located in our hotel (most hotels do here) and made appointments for a classic Thai massage. This was my first Thai massage experience. It was interesting for sure, but afterwards I felt totally relaxed and refreshed! If you are sensitive, I wouldn’t recommend this massage.

Hiked up to the Diana Observation Tower

I had no idea that this spa town had so many great walking and hiking trails! It was perfect for the pup. You can walk all the way from the city to the top or you can drive up halfway and then take the rail car. We did a mix of both. Unfortunately it was a cloudy day, but the views were still great!

Where We Ate

  • Nároďák – This restaurant happened to be located right next to our hotel and had some great local Czech options and cold beer served directly from their copper tanks. It’s affordable and a great spot for lunch.
  • Hotel Promenada – This was rated at the top restaurant in the area and after eating there, I could see why! It’s a fine dining restaurant without the heft price tag. Dishes aren’t cheap, but are definitely a good bang for your buck!

Where We Stayed

We stayed at GrandHotel Ambassador in the pedestrian zone. Everything is in walking distance and it has parking on site for a small fee. The rooms were very cozy and included a fluffy robe and slippers to use while you were there. Winning! Breakfast was included as well and was very good!

Although this was a short one-night trip, it was just perfect! I felt like I could have lived in that robe forever. And since this adorable little town in only two hours away, I definitely have plans to go back for another spa treatment… or two.
